When I began this job, I got a tour of a building in our southern Maine offices. I also met a lot of people I would probably only ever meet this one time, but some of them were worth meeting nevertheless. The first person worth meeting that comes to mind was a lady who offered me the opportunity to have a blog on the company website. I jumped at the chance, considering I’ve always wanted to blog. I’ve tried (and failed) enough times on my own that I’m sure that part was obvious to anyone that knows me well enough. I have ideas, too — I’d love to start a recipe blog. Or a photo blog. Or a restaurant review blog! Or a music blog. Or a ‘stuff to do around Maine’ blog. Or a random thoughts & observations blog. Or a short fiction blog.
Ideas I have. Execution? Not so much. I’m also afraid of limiting myself by calling it a certain type of blog for fear that I’ll run out of things to say on the topic I choose and then be S.O.L. I’m sometimes quite jealous of Andy and his vast knowledge of random and cool things. He could easily write a political blog that was informative and easy to understand for the general public. (At least, he does a great job of explaining things to me.) He could also write a skeptics blog beginning with information about the logical fallacies. I have knowledge on a lot of topics, but expertise in very few, and those few things mostly aren’t something other people would wish to read about. It all comes back to the execution, too. Let’s say I come up with a great idea for a blog — living here with no one to say “Shouldn’t you be working on your blog instead of playing Peggle?” and the way I get distracted would make it a challenge, to say the least. As it is right now I should be reading my book, but instead I’m here, typing to you.
So there’s that.
